Believe it or not, you don’t have to drive for hours to escape into nature. If you’re short on time or don’t have a car, there are still some amazing places to camp right in or super close to the city. Perfect for a quick getaway, a trial run before a longer trip, or just because you need to wake up to birds and not sirens.
Here are some of our fave campsites within or just on the edge of the city.
1. Indian Line Campground – Brampton
Distance from downtown: ~40 minutes
Open: May 9 – November 2
Best for: First-timers, families, car-free campers
Indian Line is one of the best-kept secrets. It's part of the TRCA system and super easy to get to — even by public transit + Uber. You’ll find electrical and non-electrical sites, clean washrooms, and actual showers. Bonus: it’s close to Claireville Conservation Area for some light hiking or biking.
👉 Campa tip: This is a great place to test out your camping setup before going deeper into the wild.

2. Glen Rouge Campground – Scarborough
Distance from downtown: ~35 minutes
Open: Closed this season but usually May to October
Best for: Urban campers who want nature + convenience
The only campground technically within the City of Toronto. Located in Rouge National Urban Park, Glen Rouge gives you that outdoorsy feeling without leaving the city limits. Great trails, lots of trees, and proximity to the zoo (if you wanna sneak in a day trip).
👉 Campa tip: Although it is closed for renovation for 2025, It’s popular, so book ahead next season.
3. Albion Hills – Caledon
Distance from downtown: ~1 hour
Open: May 9 – November 2
Best for: Campers who want a bit more action
Albion Hills is a bit further out, but still technically a GTA gem. It’s got hiking, mountain biking, and a sweet lake with a beach area. Super family-friendly and a good intro to more “active” camping. You’ll get a nice balance of comfort and adventure here.
👉 Campa tip: If you’re booking with a group, request sites close to each other—they’re spread out!
